Medicare Supplement Plans (aka Medigap): Are plans offered by private insurance companies that work WITH Original Medicare and simply fill in the gaps that are left over by Original Medicare. *Most Medicare Advantage plans combine prescription drug coverage. Part D is NOT offered through the government like Original Medicare Part A and B are. Part D is provided by private insurance companies (Cigna, UnitedHealthcare®, Humana). Part D: is the part of Medicare that provides outpatient prescription drug coverage. You are required to abide by the restrictions of the plan such as only being able to get care from certain doctors and hospitals that are in the same network as the plan. These plans come in the form of an HMO or PPO plan. The plan replaces your Original Medicare. With a Medicare Advantage plan, you receive your Medicare benefits through the plan. Medicare Part C is simply a plan offered by private insurance companies that replaces your Original Medicare. Part C: Refers to Medicare Advantage plans and is not to be confused with your primary Medicare coverage part A and B. This increases if your income is over $85k for an individual or $170k for a couple. This premium is generally $135.50 per month (for 2019). You pay a monthly premium for this coverage.
